Tip for November 2008
Welcome to November everyone! Happy Elections & Happy Thanksgiving!
I don't know about you, but October brought some incredible surprises. The last two weeks of October were especially interesting. I encountered one major change in particular in the past week and I am now settling into the reality of it all and the excitement of the "new". Whew!
I predicted that October would be filled with energy and change and, WOW, was it ever! I cannot believe how quickly the time flew by! As I write this, I am smiling as I reflect on all that happened...and I know that more change is to come! We will be experiencing and incredible shift and historical change on November 4th to start us off!!
As I pondered on how quickly October flew by and all the changes that occurred, I realized that my Tip for November needed to be a message about the appreciation and management of time.
Although we may think we have a lot of time on this earth, we don't. Time goes by quickly and we often realize this when it is too late. We often think that we can get to certain things later; or call/see family and friends tomorrow, next week or take up an activity or hobby next month, next year, when things settle down, etc. Don't put off doing what you love, spending time with those you love. Carve out time for yourself and your loved ones. What you will find when you do this is that you will have more energy; feel supported, connected. I cannot go a day without a little "me" time; whether it be a long walk, hike, painting, watching a movie, reading, etc. I always make sure to carve out time for myself so that I stay balanced and grounded. I feel that when I do this, I have more energy to give to my family, friends and my work.
I understand that many of you have families, spouses, demanding jobs....basically, responsibilities:), and that time management can be tricky with added responsibilities. I can absolutely relate. I call this to light because as a friend told me once "you teach what you need to learn." As I get busier, I notice how valuable my time is and become clearer about who I want to share my time with and those things I want to do. A priority for me is staying connected to my family and close friends. So when I am consumed with work, I take little breaks, be it a phone call or e-mail to my mom & papa, siblings and friends to let them know that I'm thinking of them. My connection to them keeps me going; often times we don't even have real conversations, we just mess around, but regardless, we make time for each other, even if it's for a few minutes. I also carve out quality time with all of them so that they have my full attention and presence. At times it's not easy to do, but I know that the more I reach out to stay connected to those I care about, the more grounded I am.
Time really is precious. Savor each moment and give thanks for all that comes your way. Like the saying goes "don't put off 'till tomorrow what you can do today." If you are thinking of someone, let them know! The small gestures do count! Carve out time for YOU and your loved ones. Make it a priority. Know that the more time you give to yourself, the more time you will have for others.
And as always, use some aromatherapy to keep you feeling good:)
Pot-pourri simmer recipe
(My favorite this time of year! This will make your home smell wonderful!!!)
4 cinnamon sticks
5 star anise
One orange peel
One grapefruit peel
6 drops frankincense essential oil
6 drops tangerine essential oil
4 cups water
Place ingredients into a deep simmer pot and bring to a boil. When you reach a boil, turn heat down to a simmer. If water starts to evaporate, you can continue to add water. When I use this recipe, I let it simmer for a couple hours. It's wonderful to use around the holidays. It smells like yummy pumpkin pieJ Delicious!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Many wishes and blessings,
Carrie
